California schools will receive a boost of about $1 billion for music and arts education starting next year after voters approved Proposition 28 yesterday, early election results show.

starting next year after voters approved Proposition 28 on Tuesday, early election results show.

Tuesday’s voter approval does not come as a surprise; Proposition 28 faced no official opposition and received widespread support, including from celebrities such as Christina Aguilera and Barbra Streisand, who promoted the measure as a way to diversify the Hollywood industry and create more equity in schools.Proponents of the measure also pointed to research that shows that arts courses can improve students’ cognitive development and other academic and social benefits.

The measure, approved by a wide margin on Tuesday, is set to give more to schools in low-income neighborhoods.California propositions voter guide: Gambling, abortion, EV cars, kidney dialysis and moreThe California Constitution requires that schools receive at least about a 40% portion of the total state budget each year. The money provided by Proposition 28 will be in addition to that amount, and is to be used only for music and arts courses and teachers.

Maybe a school in the LAUSD can hire someone that can teach music lessons how to rap the right way.

Lots of music and art careers out there......js This is to be expected from someone with a 100 billion dollar high speed train from Madera to Shafter

The boy in the photo looks so innocent as he's laughing and looking at the girl. I wonder if he has a crush on that girl.

it will become administrators salaries... enjoy

wooo, :)

it’s pointless. the money goes nowhere and we get screwed via more taxes. we’ve voted for these things over and over again with no actual results. con

If legislatures can define Economic Crisis, then does that mean they can define it within any means they consider an economic crisis? Meaning this funding is then reduced, by legislatures during a socalled economic crisis, when it would be needed most? Popular props questionable?

I thought we voted in the lottery years ago to pay for “extra curricula” in schools?

California needs money for math more than anything else …

Another tax for California's failed school districts, When CA was run by Brown he left office with a $6Billion rainy day fund, now under another Leftist Democrat that same fund is now near oe over $40Billion tax surplus, too bad that tax money doesn't pay for the arts or roads!!

The schools NEVER see the money. This was not a smart move. For that 1.9B lottery. How much of that... do the schools see? The small print, says money can be used for public safety. We just fave the police more money... in the name of children. Art. And math.

We’ll see how much of it actually makes it the schools. Hoping for the best but don’t trust those than manage this.

Thank God, the kids new music and the arts.👍

Kids who play music do better in math. It’s a fact.

I love our state. Seeing all the sadness and hate results around the country makes me take a step back and appreciate where I live.

California Proposition 29: Kidney DialysisProposition 29 would impose new regulations on California's kidney dialysis clinics, most notably that a physician, nurse, or physician's assistant would always need to be on site. And that’s a good thing! The clinics NEED regulation. The privately owned clinics should not be allowed to do whatever they want. The owners of the clinics prioritize money over the patient’s health. VOTE YES ON 29.
