No lawyer, in their right mind, would represent the broke ass state of California unless they just want to work many hundreds of hours for free.
The state must demonstrate it has suffered a concrete injury, or that an injury is imminent. That injury must be traceable to the defendant. Finally, a plaintiff must demonstrate that if it wins in court, a court can redress that injury. Have fun paying for all of that!
These states are to be shamed and despised: In addition to California, the other states that joined the lawsuit are Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon and Virginia.
