A California lawmaker has introduced a bill aimed at making PG&E Corp a publicly...

) a publicly owned utility, a year after liabilities from wildfires traced back to some of its equipment pushed the power producer into bankruptcy.

“Today I’m introducing legislation to force PG&E to become a publicly owned utility,” California State Senator Scott Wiener said on Monday, adding it was time for a new approach at the utility company. “Changing the structure of the company would not create a safer or cleaner operation. Recent takeover attempts have largely failed due to a range of factors,” the spokesman said.

Newsom last month rejected an earlier PG&E reorganization plan saying it lacked major changes in governance and tougher safety enforcement mechanisms mandated under a recent state wildfire statute.

Where is John Galt?

Good idea. Having it be a for profit just seems to have resulted in a lot of fires.

Good idea, the state can’t run it any worse than a for-profit company and may in fact run it better.

Soooooo. A bailout?

Wait now are the taxpayers on the hook for what they do? Are the politicians going to take the blame for rate hikes and fire damage?

A test? Fascist California is trying to test the waters? Again? If they get one, they'll get them all.

I thought all the talk about California being a socialist dystopia was a joke. Guess not.

Won’t that make the public responsible for all the PG&E disasters?

Isn't that called nationalization? They did that in Venezuela.

Bernie's climate play: A federal takeover of electricity productionSanders wants federally owned utilities to build massive amounts of wind and solar to compete with private generators, but critics say that would complicate an already tricky transition to clean energy. This is definitely not communism..... Dem/socialist need to vote for Bernie! Utilities are already largely public, this just seems like common sense.
