California crews use 4,500 gallons of water to put out Tesla fire

The white Tesla was fully involved with fire when the fire crew arrived at the scene earlier this week,The car was parked in a wrecking yard for dismantling after it was greatly damaged from an accident in early June.

"Even with direct penetration, the vehicle would still re-ignite due to the residual heat," officials said. It can be difficult to put flames out because the vehicles' lithium-ion batteries keep burning until all the energy is released.

That’s saving the environment. 🙄

Wy not let it burn? I mean it was already on fire. Sure the insurance wasbgoing to total it any ways. Now California is 4,500 gallons of the so much needed water, just because a rich guy’s car.

um, there has to be a protocol for putting out electric car fires. surely pouring water on lithium is not a chemist-approved way to stop the exothermic reaction.

Brand name, Tesla. It has to re-ignite.

Maybe they should’ve tossed baking soda over the flames, you would think that fighter fighters would understand that larger battery fires are best handled with a foam extinguisher, CO2, ABC dry chemical, powder graphite, copper powder or sodium carbonate.

I’ve seen more cars on the side of the freeway than teslas on fire (2 in 3 months) no news on those , it’s just when it happens to a tesla it’s on the news.
