SAN FRANCISCO — A California appeals court on Thursday upheld an order requiring Uber and Lyft to treat their California drivers as employees instead of independent contractors, less than two weeks before voters will be asked to exempt the ride-hailing giants from the state’s gig economy law. Uber and Lyft — who along with DoorDash have heavily bankrolled the ballot measure — had appealed an August preliminary injunction by a San Francisco judge. But“We conclude that the injunction was properly issued in accordance with enduring principles of equity,” the 74-page ruling said. “It is broad in scope, no doubt, but so too is the scale of the alleged violations.”

Uber CEO says prices could double if drivers become employees, but this economist isn’t buying itUber's CEO has said that prices could double if drivers become employees. But this economist estimates much smaller price increases would be needed and could be absorbed by Uber and Lyft. levisu With the kind of power that platforms like this have to drive people into absolute poverty for the platform's profit, going forward I think governments need to view them as utilities and regulate them FAR more tightly. levisu California Democrat politicians are insane levisu Uber lies about everything. It’s funny though, taxis were protesting Uber and now it’s own drivers are protesting Uber. 😂
