California coronavirus patient was hospitalized a week ago but wasn’t tested until days later

World Health Organization officials said yesterday that for the first time, the number of daily cases reported outside China had exceeded the number of those reported within the country where the outbreak began.The shift in focus from China to the rest of the world was further highlighted Wednesday, with the announcement that all passengers arriving in Beijing would be subject to a 14-day quarantine if they have recently traveled in affected countries.

At least 18 cases of the virus have been confirmed in both Germany and France, while two French patients have died from the disease.In Asia, the worst outbreak beyond mainland China is in South Korea, where at least 1,595 cases have been reported, including 13 deaths. That outbreak appears to have begun in the southern city of Daegu, where around 700 of the cases have been reported, but it has since spread throughout the country, bringing with it travel restrictions and emergency measures.Around 140 cases of the virus have been confirmed in Iran, and 19 deaths. Multiple neighboring countries have cut off travel to Iran, while Qatar has ordered the evacuation of citizens from the country, along with Kuwaitis who wish to leave Iran.

Does anyone know the age of this lady hospitalized UCDavisMedCntr ? Media says “she was brought in on a respirator but wasnt tested because she didn’t meet the “diagnostic criteria”. Most patients w/ coronavirus complications are elderly yet no mention of her age so I’m curious?

The missteps and avoidance of common sense measures is so ridiculous! This is not a dream, right? If the virus can live on a surface for up to 9 days, the lady was probably infected that way. Or from someone not showing symptoms.

As an infectious disease expert I believe ALL new pneumonia cases in the ICU in the USA should be tested for corona virus. If I was in charge I would have implemented this 1 month ago...

Is this the case that does not know where this patient was exposed? If they missed any symptoms and delayed diagnosis for 48 hours, it is even a worse disaster. There was a new case supposedly discovered in Florida that has no specific exposure history.
