This is a special election to fill the remainder of former Republican Rep. Kevin McCarthy’s term – after 17 years in Congress, McCarthy resigned after he waswas on March 5, and the candidates on the ballot are largely the same. State assembly member Vince Fong and Tulare County Sheriff Mike Boudreaux advanced in the primary for the full term, but Democrat Marisa Wood came in a close third.
If no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two will advance to a special general election May 21. Polls close at 11 p.m. Eastern.The Washington Post uses vote count data from the Associated Press, which uses a 50-state network of local reporters to gather election results directly from state, county and local elections offices. AP checks vote tallies against state and county election websites to ensure they are accurate.
