Cal State Fullerton softball beats LBSU on walk-off homer in series opener

FULLERTON — In a pivotal moment of a game important to the pursuit of a Big West Conference title, Cal State Fullerton softball coach Kelly Ford had given the Green Zone sign to Daisy Muñoz.Trailing Long Beach State by one run in the bottom of the seventh, the Titans had two runners on with one out when Muñoz, a junior from Los Alamitos High, came to the plate.

The game was a scramble from the start, Long Beach taking a 4-0 lead, Fullerton coming back to gain a 5-4 edge and Long Beach countering with a two-run seventh inning for a 6-5 lead. “It was just a battle, in typical Fullerton-Long Beach fashion,” Ford said. “It’s a rivalry in which every pitch matters. We have a lot of respect for each other.”
