Con más estados y condados que amplían el acceso a la vacuna contra COVID-19 a diferentes grupos de personas, algunos californianos están comenzando a sentirse abandonados.

Si bien no respetar la línea de espera puede quitarle una dosis crítica a alguien que la necesita con urgencia, los especialistas en ética médica generalmente han estado de acuerdo en que es mejor que una inyección entre en el brazo de alguien en lugar de terminar en la basura.
Los propios Centros para el Control y la Prevención de Enfermedades autorizaron a sus proveedores de vacunas “llamadas de juicio de buena fe”, lo que les permite administrar dosis excesivas a personas fuera de los grupos de priorización autorizados. Esas decisiones no estarían mal vistas si las inyecciones “de otro modo se desperdiciarían debido a la caducidad”, indicó la institución.
“No tuve ningún problema con que las personas más vulnerables fueran vacunadas primero, especialmente los trabajadores en la primera línea y los ancianos”, comentó Moreno, de 51 años. “Pero siento que debería haberse abierto a más personas más rápido”.
