A bystander helped fire crews rescue one of two people trapped in a burning vehicle after they said it rolled over in Utah.

Officials responded to the scene just after 2:10 a.m. on Friday on SR-18 in Diamond Valley. They said the initial request came from an Apple Watch that detected its owner had been involved in an accident.

Dammeron Valley Fire & Rescue officials said that on their way to the scene, bystander Jayden Darrington had stopped and reported a single vehicle had rolled and was on fire with two occupants trapped inside. Additional units were called to assist. They said they "worked with Darrington to extricate the driver from the burning vehicle and move the patient to safety away from the fire."Crews worked to suppress and extinguish the vehicle fire as both patients were treated at the scene and transported to St. George Regional Hospital in critical condition.

"We remind everyone traveling on SR-18 to drive defensively and observe all posted speed limit and traffic signs," fire officials stated. "As growth across Washington County increases traffic on the corridor, it is important to pay attention and avoid excessive speeds and risky passing maneuvers."
