The total announced by the mayor of South Bend, Ind., is likely to give a boost to his candidacy in a crowded Democratic field.

By John Wagner John Wagner National reporter leading The Post's breaking political news team Email Bio Follow April 1 at 6:26 AM Pete Buttigieg, the mayor of South Bend, Ind., said Monday that he raised more than $7 million during the first quarter of the year as he explored a White House bid, a total likely to give a boost to his candidacy for the Democratic presidential nomination.

Reports for money raised through Sunday night are not due until April 15, but some candidates are previewing their totals. “This is just a preliminary analysis, but our team’s initial report shows we raised over $7 million dollars in Q1 of this year,” Buttigieg said in his predawn tweet. “We are out-performing expectations at every turn. I’ll have a more complete analysis later, but until then: a big thank you to all our supporters.”
