While Buffalo isn’t immune to climate change, scientists say it’s among a handful of cities that could become more desirable as the Earth warms.

Maria del Mar Agosto’s house in San Juan, Puerto Rico, was destroyed on Sept. 20, 2017, by Hurricane Maria, setting off a series of events that would lead her to an unlikely new home just two months later: Buffalo, New York.

“I prefer snow a thousand times than a hurricane,” Agosto, 33, said in Spanish. “I truly feel safer here.” While Agosto did not mean to be ahead of the curve, some forward-thinking people have looked to Buffalo as a snowy oasis. Susan Drayton moved to Buffalo from Florida in 2003, in part, because of what she calls her"apocalyptic vision" of the momentum of environmental problems after having lived through some extreme weather.

I grew up in Buffalo. It's shit in the winter, but when it warms up it's pretty nice. Close proximity to Canada, city and rural, Niagara Falls, parks, home of the chicken wing, good schools, golf courses, museums, sports... stuff like that. Overall it's pretty good.

My grandmother once said that the south will weather like the north and the north will have weather like the south. Could she be right? Is that how she explained what we call climate change today?

Oh, are we back to 'global warming', now? I just can't keep up on the current buzz word.

If y'all were smart, you'd be buying property in future global-warming paradise Erie, Pennsylvania.

Ummm... Niagara Falls is not in Buffalo, NY. It’s in ... Niagara Falls, NY (and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada).
