STRASBOURG - European Union chief negotiator Michel Barnier warned Britain on Tuesday not to discriminate against EU citizens seeking permanent residency after Brexit, urging London to set up an independent monitoring authority.
“I will continue to insist on the particular importance of the UK putting in place a strong, independent monitoring authority...that must be able to act rapidly and fairly when faced with complaints from EU citizens and their families,” Barnier told European lawmakers in Strasbourg. “We must now work toward proper implementation of these rights and we won’t be accepting any half measures or any form of disguised or veiled discrimination,” Barnier said.Reuters reported in November that Britain was threatening to deport EU citizens if they failed to apply on time and would grant leniency only in exceptional circumstances.
European Parliament members expressed worries during a debate on Tuesday that Britain would not honor commitments of the agreement, and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen told them it was “a legal issue with a moral imperative”.
More hot air from this pompous arrogant oaf. Let’s hope the same veiled treatment is not experienced by Britain’s living in the EU after Brexit.
Exactly - give everyone a battery of tests - those not natural born could be kicked out for failing to take the test or not passing ~ a veiled attack is not clear ~
I wonder how many tens of millions of Europeans came out and voted to elect him to his position.... oh erm... that embarrassing .... non
How rude. We can hate whoever we like. In a friendly way of course 🤟❤
The EU is a Corrupt Dictatorship... Leave the corrupt EU if you want to be a free & sovereign country. Under the EU you will be flooded with immigrants that will take over your country & destroy your way of life. Europe
I’ve spoken to my friends from EU been living in the UK for 7 10 or more years and strangely they have no rush to apply for British residency or British passport. People also should feel more responsible for their life and their families. Acting upset won’t be a solution.
Veiled?
Hahaha 'veiled discrimination' - let's Britain continues to enjoys its BrexitFestival
