HOUSTON, TEXAS – DECEMBER 3: Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton looks off during the second half at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas on December 3, 2023. The Houston Texans beat the Denver Broncos 22 to 17 during week 13 of 2023 NFL season. ORLANDO, Fla. — Broncos coach Sean Payton outlined key personnel decisions made over the past month, the team’s free agency strategy so far and looked ahead to the 2024 season Monday morning as part of the NFL’s annual spring meeting.“I think realistic.

“So I think the key is what’s the fit relative to your team? You do pay attention to where you feel like teams are at in their needs. There’s obviously a few teams at the front of this draft with a quarterback need. That’s no secret. Then you kind of go from there.” The bottom line is this: Denver didn’t go into the offseason planning just on signing a quarterback. Payton remains committed to finding the right one. That means, essentially, by any means necessary. And that means trading up is squarely on the table if there’s a guy Denver decides can be the solution.

The Broncos are clearly making a point to get their books in order while they’re dealing with the fallout of Wilson’s contract and that at least played a factor in the decision not to retain a pair of key contributors from the past several years. Why a former Sean Payton QB thinks Broncos coach will like Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. in the 2024 draftNew Broncos safety Brandon Jones has proven himself versatile at previous stops.
