'I fear a generation of viewers who did not live through these events may mistake fiction for fact,' says U.K. culture secretary Oliver Dowden amid debate over season 4 of Netflix's TheCrown. Details:

, the politician joined a growing chorus — emanating especially loudly from various elements of the British press — calling on the show's producers to add a"health warning" making it clear that the show is based on fiction.

Dowden also claimed he would be writing to Netflix this week to express his concerns.

Those of us who did live through it know that while the detail is often wrong, the outline is generally correct.

The main point is no matter the private conversations that no one will ever no,but you can only imagine how Diana felt knowing her husband cheated on her before and during their entire marriage. This will not be the last adaptation of the Royals, just wait.

Then maybe improve your education system? TV shows are not facts. Any sensibly person should know that

If anyone watched the crown and thought things really happened, then they seriously need to get educated.

The main problem of the UK culture secretary is NOT the fictional part, but the real part. Like the Charles cheating Diana...

It’s the “Oliver Stoning” of history where entertainment is mistaken for fact. And the more easily and widely the entertainment is consumed, the more deeply entrenched into the public psyche, the more likely that these works of fiction will become, de facto, fact.

This show doesn't state its a doc or a biopic.. It's a fictional retelling of the story of the royal family & elizabeth. If people use TV to learn history, then they will end up pretty dumb. Use this to peak interest, and then do your REAL research people.

Hilarious + very typically British. Rejoice that The Crown was created via Netflix, at all. Forget not, BBC had option to create it + turned its writer's down. Netflix stepped in + the rest is streaming content history. 2 more season to go, so enjoy it + thanks Netflix👍♥️☮️.

It wasn’t fiction and we all know it. TeamDiana

Living through the events means people were just told what the Mail and the Sun wanted them to see. It has as much to do with reality as Springtime for Hitler has to do with WWII.

Well then where can they go to FACT CHECK.. you know the REAL facts, not the manufactured ones! 🙄

Doubt they’re bothered. Meanwhile there’s a generation now wondering why Prince Andrew won’t co-operate with US authorities regarding Jeffrey Epstein 🤔

They really glossed over how damaging her mental illness was to those around her. She flung herself down the stairs while pregnant with William. I’m shocked they left that out.

The dialogues are fiction, the events are facts. This is a post Me too era, these shit won't fly. I knew it was bad, but it's one thing to read about it and another to watch it. It was literally like a dagger in my heart, I feel so sorry for Diana.

Tell me about it. There are a noticeable amount of millennials for instance that think KingJames is a ruling monarch of royal blood. Hey, Prince Harry 🤴 has royal blood by the powers that be even though his blood is no more royal than Lebron James' blood.

Or the FACT is Princess Diana was as you see... Prince Charles put her through HELL

Again

We don’t have to live the era to understand infidelity, lack of responsibility and driving ones spouse to madness based on ones own insecurities & mummy issues. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What fiction? The royals are a bunch of red neck bums. We don’t need Netflix to tell us that.

Only think I’ve seen is a family who don’t do much work, have a lot of parties and enjoy living at the expense of me. However, it’s quite an enjoyable show.

What fear? The fear that they didn’t expose even more or let’s waitehrn they show how they planed to kill her. Ya’ll rather ignore the actual facts

Sorry but which part is fiction? Prince Charles did carry on their affair during his marriage to Princess Di. People have seen enough biopics to know that the scenes are broad strokes. But the basic facts are there and the prince was not a faithful husband.

Exactlt they need to know that reality was much worse and that charles wasnt that good looking years ago

That’s what he fears about culture in 2020. As Culture Secretary he should be focussing on the devastation facing the sector and all who work in it. Instead he’s focussing on this non-issue.

Yes, we must never forget that in real life, Charles was an even bigger asshole.

Oh do me a favour! Look the affair happened, end off!
