Nearly 2.6 million people watched the town hall, with Baier and Fox News Channel's Martha MacCallum getting largely positive reviews for their questioning. "I think it went well, and I think it shows our commitment to being fair and giving time to candidates on the Democratic side," said Baier, who called the Sanders town hall"the biggest event yet of the 2020 election season.
But last month, the Democratic Party announced it would ban Fox from hosting any of the Democratic presidential debates for the 2020 election, citing"recent reporting" in theon the"inappropriate relationship between President Trump, his administration and Fox News." DNC chair Tom Perez said in a statement at the time that he had concluded"the network is not in a position to host a fair and neutral debate for our candidates.
Fox News colleague Brit Hume, noting the huge ratings for Monday's town hall, said Sanders was"smart to do it. He was aggressively questioned but got plenty of time to make his case. Shows the absurdity of Tom Perez's whining about Fox's higher-ups."
