Flu infects 26,000,000 annually in the USA. If coronavirus infected that hypothetical number, with a fatality rate of 2.5% to 5% (could be higher), between 650,000 and 1.3 million people would die in the USA alone. In comparison, flu only kills 25-69,000 per year in the US.
