BP Plc and Chevron Corp on Monday said they have shut-in production at offshore oil platforms in the Gulf of Mexico, as a powerful Hurricane Ian bore down on the top U.S. offshore production region.

said they were implementing measures for facilities in the Gulf of Mexico. Spokespeople declined further comment.

BP said it has evacuated personnel from its 130,000 barrels of oil per day Na Kika, and from its 250,000 bpd Thunder Horse platform. Na Kika also produces 550 million cubic feet per day of natural gas, and Thunder Horse 200 mmcf/d.
