Tesla , for all of its current problems, deserves credit for several things: the intangible cool factor that it brought to a once sad-sack vehicle segment, and the class-leading efficiency of its motors and batteries. But, a reliable and easy-to-use charging network that could not be more different than the star-crossed chargers from rivals like Electrify America and EVgo.
Given the sudden and at this point seemingly irreversible format shift to the NEVS charging format pioneered by Tesla, the state of the Supercharger network has a great bearing on EV adoption in general. A diaspora of former Tesla workers might improve the qualities of the charging networks they end up working for. Or, with a less singular vision, the Supercharger network’s advantages might be diluted by various corporate pressures.
