Box Office: ‘Scream’ Set to Dethrone ‘Spider-Man’ at Box Office With $36 Million Holiday Weekend Debut

Paramount Pictures and Spyglass Media’s “Scream,” the fifth installment in the horror franchise and the first in over a decade, grossed $13.35 million on Friday from 3,664 locations. The studio projects that the horror film should rake in a solid $36 million over the four-day Martin Luther King Jr. holiday weekend, more than enough to land at No. 1 for the weekend.

Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett direct “Scream,” taking over the series from its founder Wes Craven, who helmed the four first entries before dying in 2015. The film stars series regulars Neve Campbell, Courteney Cox and David Arquette as they are once again haunted by a serial killer in a Ghostface mask. The killing spree extends to a group of high school students in the town of Woodsboro, Calif. Melissa Barrera, Jenna Ortega, Jack Quaid and Dylan Minnette also star in the slasher.

Meanwhile, Sony’s “Spider-Man: No Way Home” is still playing strong weeks after its supermassive debut.

The 355 was financed by pre-sales at Cannes 2018 Universal paid $20m for US/UK, with global pre-sales of about $100m the $75m budget film made a profit for FilmNation but will be a huge loss to all global distributors

Huge

Could’ve all been fixed at script stage with a director that understands storytelling not action set pieces. aussiedirectors

I doubt Scream finna dethrone No Way Home but I have high hopes that this movie will make enough for being the first film in 2022

2022 and woodsboro still has zero diversity lol...

Scream opening with $36m is far from favourable to recent horror sequels Halloween Kills and A Quiet Place Part 2 as its exactly the same as Scream 3 opened with 22 years ago despite 75%+ ticket inflation since; favourable would be opening similar to those two horror sequels

BestfScarlett WOWWWWWW

No accounting for taste I guess.

Oh wow, well I didn’t expect this. Congrats ScreamMovies 😭

gamerbobross killers and motive werent that amazing . that could have been alittle better. good movie though

Didn't love this entry, but I do love seeing a Scream movie doing big business.

It is absolute trash. A victory for marketing over filmmaking.

Dewey deserve better and more respect. I Will pretend tua film Never happened. Its good but this new start, will kill this franchise.

Barrera was terrible. New lead actress.

We enjoyed it! 🔪

This is honestly waaay better than I expected especially given the Omicron variant and a horror film released in the dead of January. Should bring positive expectations for other releases, especially fir The Batman keeping its March 4 release.

Let's go. DonnahueGeorge

South Side Pastor Thinks Outside The Box To Increase COVID-19 Vaccination RatesIf you’re not vaccinated against COVID-19 by now, you never will be, right? Wrong. Not if you ask a South Side pastor who is thinking outside the box to drive up vaccination rates. I'm skeptical of any Christian organization, that pushes the implementation of shooting aborted fetal embryo matter into another human's body. Jesus warns us about end times deception...
