By April 3, the greatest calendar migration in the 100-year-plus history of the movie business was complete as virtually all major summer tentpoles relocated amid the coronavirus pandemic in a mega-game of dominoes that has reshaped the 2020 and 2021 release slates, and beyond.
The company estimates that domestic revenue will come in at $6.82 billion if all 5,400 theaters stateside stay shuttered for a full three months, with traffic returning to normal levels immediately. If theaters are closed for three months, but traffic builds slowly, that number could be in the $6.36 billion range.
I think as a society we need to stop comparing business on a year to year basis. You can't always beat the previous year and conditions outside your control can affect the yearly numbers dramatically.
We could be seeing an end to movie theatres as we know it.
It will be worse than that.
Maaaaaaybe Hollywood should stop spending so much on making movies?🤷♂️
Even worse if they force theaters to only seat half of capacity after they reopen.
lol are we ignoring inflation again? Inflation doesnt exist to the film industry it seems.
ManaByte Why does everyone seem to think theatres will only be closed for a few months? Things aren't really getting any better. If everything opens back up, it'll get much worse
Actually, try again. No one will be going to theaters when they're reopened. Moreover, even when they're reopened it's a fact that they'll be required to continue social distancing, meaning half seats blocked off and not sold.
ManaByte I hope this was worth delaying Phase Four. Seriously, why couldn't Disney just release Black Widow in September, and then let everything else proceed as planned?
ManaByte It is rather fascinating that 2019 was one of the best years ever for cinema, while 2020 will probably be one of the worst. Quite the contrast.
If Hollywood wants to keep showing movies in actual theaters, the MPAA should organize the studios to do a revenue share with theater owners and release blockbusters directly through home pay companies (Amazon etc.) then do a re-release in theaters of the blockbusters when safe.
Well, I'm definitely willing to risk my life so studios can lose $7 billion in profits due to creative accounting.
BOX OFFICE or Life I have choice, i love to rest in live !! 😁😁😁😎
