Boston hospital denies heart transplant to man who hasn't received COVID-19 vaccine.

Tracey and David Ferguson insisted their son does not oppose vaccines; he just worries the COVID-19 shot would complicate his heart condition, they said."He's not an anti-vaxxer. He has all of his vaccines, and he's an informed patient who is concerned because of his current cardiac crisis," Tracey Ferguson said.

The coronavirus vaccine is just one of several vaccinations required for patients who receive a transplant at Brigham and Women's Hospital, a spokesperson at the facility told ABC News. These requirements"create both the best chance for a successful operation and optimize the patient's survival after transplantation, given that their immune system is dramatically suppressed," spokesperson Serena Bronda wrote in an email.

Evaluating patients seeking organ transplants is a common practice in most hospitals -- and a necessary one, experts told ABC News, as there are not enough organs for everyone who needs one.

An ethicality case study to be.

How about this headline instead: Man in need of a new heart to survive refuses to get a COVID vaccine. He stated he heard on Fox News that it might kill him.

transplantas always go to the best candidate, a vaccinated candidate has less chance of complications

This man chose not to get the vaccine so in essence he wants to die because he knows for his safety he should get the vaccine because of the surgery he refuses so that concludes to me that he wants to die either from heart failure or covid-19

Heartless

He doesn't believe in science and drugs......but wants a heart transplant which is science and drugs.

Good…🤷🏻‍♂️

Need a logo design? Hire me on fiverr

If at this point you’re still too stupid to get the vaccine because you believe it’s harmful to you or there’s micro chips inside….. Then live or die with the consequences. Don’t want some idiot that was irresponsible and didn’t get vaccinated get a free pass. GetVaccinatedNow

The guy is showing he does not care for his health.

Sad for him and his poor choice. The organ will go to someone in need who follows all the rules and is going to benefit and live from that organ. Choices have consequences. He chose poorly. Now it's time to cope with the reality of his choice.

Edit: Boston hospital enforces standard transplant requirements.

Take a risk on a vaccine or take a risk with your heart which is already dying...hmmm... Pretty sure you can suck it up and take the vaccine...or choose to die on your hill, literally.

If he gets the vaccine can he go back on the waitlist? My sisters life was saved thanks to a liver donation.

He made his choice, now he has to deal with it.

Can’t the hospital be sued for this? Isn’t there an oath that ALL medical professionals must help those in need regardless of race, sex, etc. why does vaccination make a difference. I see a court case coming.

He had a choice. Next!

Cheer for the deaths you have caused abc.

Can't blame the guy. Dr. Rogan advised him not to.

Good 👍

Shame on our country and shame on you abcnews the trust you have lost can never be regained 😔

Good, save it for someone who has respect for the medical profession.

Personal responsibility.

So if a kid steals a car and gets in an accident, do we deny care if they didn’t have a license? Should we let people under 21 die of alcohol poisoning? Should we stop defibrillating obese heart attack victims?

People who agree with this hospital are dispicable cult members who put ideology over science.

Nobody is going to accuse covid of bringing out the best in many of you

What he really needs is a brain transplant.

Basically it's against equal treatment and human rights. Saying unvaxed person will have less chance to survive is not been scientifically proved. As there are many factor causing patient survival. Hope this not will be used as justification for mandatory vax.

Smokers do not get a new set of lungs, drunks do not get a new liver or a kidney. Lots of rules when you get an organ designed to make the most of that organ . He knew he needed to get vaccinated he could still get vaccinated. What is the Phrase something about a snowflake?

We know. Now move on to something else

So are you denying service to those that Smoke, drink or do drugs?!?!? This is Murder!!!

Good.

Good

Thats attempted homicide! If he dies, thats homicide and the doctor should go to prison!

Man refuses heart transplant at Boston Hospital. Declines adherence to medical protocol. There, fixed.

Then the doctor and hospital staff should all be locked up

Think about this……. A guy will let doctors cut out his heart & have it replaced with the heart of a dead person. CUT OUT HIS FREAKING HEART!!! But when those same docs say “but first you need 3 shots”, he’s like “oh helllll no!!” Too bad, moron. Back of the line.

Lawsuits will be happening.

good

Shame on the doctors who are taking this awful decision! 😡😡😡

This story is everywhere and deserves zero press for his bad decision. His family supports his choice of death, too. No sympathy other than for the futile efforts of his healthcare workers and others who deserve the hospital bed.

His Body, His Choice.

Good. That means he doesn't meet the strict health requirements for a transplant. Disqualification from transplant surgeries are pretty routine. Why is this a news story

Let's hope the heart goes to a worthier person who has the sense to be vaccinated, frankly the less unvaccinated folks out there the better.

Man who refuses COVID-19 vaccination denied heart transplantThe man needs a heart transplant, but doctors won’t give him one because he’s not vaccinated against COVID-19. Darwin’d. Medical malpractice! The shot causes heart issues! So why would a heart patient jeopardize their health/life by taking it!?!?! “like many other transplant programs in the United States - the COVID-19 vaccine is one of several vaccines and lifestyle behaviors required for transplant candidates' There's no point in wasting a transplant on someone who doesn't go the extra mile.
