A Border Patrol pursuit of a car believed to be used in human smuggling ended in a crash Tuesday morning when the agents attempted to stop the vehicle in Chula Vista and the driver lost control.
Agents attempted to stop the car, a black Honda sedan, just before noon on Otay Lakes Road, authorities said. An agent in a patrol vehicle turned on the lights and sirens, but the driver of the Honda did not pull over and stop. Tekae Michael, acting special operations supervisor for the Border Patrol’s San Diego Sector, said agents used a spike strip that popped one of the vehicle’s tires, causing the driver to lose control and crash off the road before coming to a stop.An agent’s vehicle made contact with the black sedan after it had stopped, Michael said.
