and made creative changes earlier this year in part because the original showrunner was looking to tackle more adult themes.I hear an effort was made for a mid-stream creative direction shift, trying to bring back some levity in tone while keeping the project going and the writers room open. As part of the efforts to find a path forward, producer Jason Reed was brought in after July 4 to help out.
The decision was backed by ABC Studios/ABC Signature where Seitzman is among of the top showrunners on the talent roster. Out of respect to the seasoned creator-producer on part of both ABC Studios and Disney+, they opted not to compromise his vision and push the project in a direction where its creative team was not comfortable going.
Also factoring into the decision was the series’ cost. I hear the initial budget came in very high but, after concessions, the streamer, the studio and the producers were getting closer to a compromise. Still, because of its nature and scop,ewas going to be a very expensive series, so that, paired with the uncertainty over its tone and creative direction likely sealed its fate.

Ugh this sounded so good. I love Disney but whyyyyy can’t they have a darker show aimed at adults/late teens? I mean, make a lighter one for the young kids too

I was looking forward to this and I understand we have Once Upon A Time and Descendants, but this would have been a dark fresh new take weaving in all the villains. But if it doesn’t happen in another way, well, oh well

Maybe they planning a movie? Or want to plan a universe of the live action movies? Maybe that why also Cruella got delay? And want to start making every memorial Day one piece of that big plan🤓
I guess they’ve learned their lesson on adapting from books
