Boerne Champion's Elizabeth Leachman handles national spotlight

AUSTIN — As Elizabeth Leachman skyrockets among the nation’s elite high school distance runners, the spotlight gets brighter. The Boerne Champion sophomore owns three national records — all achieved over the previous two months — and on Friday, she set two 5A meet records at the UIL State Track and Field Championships at Myers Stadium .

“I hadn’t been with friends in a couple of months,” Leachman said. “It was getting lonely, and the opportunity to be able to do something outside where you could be around people was really exciting to me. Even if it was just running, I got to see my friends. That was a big motivation for me to try it out.” Leachman stuck with it. In eighth grade, she had improved enough to practice with the high school runners at Geneva.
