Boeing's financial toll from 737 MAX crisis has doubled to $18.4 billion as it books full-year loss

... [+]Boeing doubled its estimate of the financial damage from the grounding of the 737 MAX to $18.4 billion as it reported a loss of $1.01 billion for the fourth quarter and $663 million for 2019. It’s the company’s first annual loss since 1997.

Boeing reported a 37% drop in sales to $17.9 billion in the quarter and a 24% drop to $76.6 billion for the full year. The U.S. Air Force has been withholding a portion of its payments for the troubled KC-46 tanker over quality problems, and the division booked a charge of $410 million in the quarter to account for a potential additional unmanned launch of its Starliner space vehicle, which was commissioned by NASA to ferry astronauts to the International Space Station. The program suffered an embarrassing setback in an unmanned test Dec.
