Boeing said it will book a nearly $5 billion charge related to compensating airlines for the 737 MAX aircraft grounding

Boeing Co. said it would book a nearly $5 billion charge related to compensating airline customers as a result of the prolonged grounding of its troubled 737 MAX aircraft.

The Chicago plane maker said Thursday the $4.9 billion after-tax charge in the second quarter was related to estimates for “potential concessions and other considerations to customers for disruptions.”
