Background: Produced from 1998 to 2002 the Z3 M Coupe was developed under the leadership of engineer Burkhard Gschel with the intention of adding increased torsional and structural rigidity to the Z3 roadster's chassis. The development team had a hard time convincing the Board of Directors to approve the model for production, but it was eventually given the green light. Using the Z3M roadster as its base, the car utilised many of the same parts but was a more serious contender with vastly improved torsional stiffness for an improved handling experience. Until 2001 the Z3M had the running gear from the E36 BMW M3 with the S50 3.2ltr 6 cylinder engine producing 317BHP from the later cars utilising the S54 3.2 from the E46 M3 with 321 BHP. Since production ceased, its reputation has grown as has its status as a modern classic amongst petrol-heads. This coupled with the vehicles scarcity has lead to them becoming a cast iron investment in recent years With just 821 RHD cars reportedly sold in the UK and with only around half still registered with the DVLA makes this a rare sight on the roads today.
