Teaching Black history accurately in schools is a battle that is being played out nationwide, but the fight for Black history curriculums is nothing new.: The Untold Story of Madeline Morgan and the Fight for Black History in Schools” is the latest selection in our Black Voices Book Club Series.The book traces a teacher’s efforts to bring Black history to Chicago classrooms.

Hines says he wanted to draw attention to Madeline Morgan, because the work of teachers and Black women activists often goes overlooked.

If African and African American history were accurately taught, Judson-Christendom would be turned on its head. The Greeks learned from the ancient Africans in Egypt/Kemet.

Took African-American History at Austin HS in fall 1968. It was first year offered by CPS. Were 2 sections. A white teacher. In my section (40 students) There were riots then. We had to flee among CPD in riot gear and rows of paddywagons. But I learned lots in that class.
