On this day in 1960, Black students in Savannah, Georgia staged sit-ins at white-only lunch counters in eight downtown stores. Three students, Carolyn Quilloin Coleman, Joan Tyson Hall, and Ernest Robinson, were arrested and taken to jail. They sang 'We Shall Overcome' and found strength in a Psalm verse. This event was inspired by the Greensboro sit-in.
