A Black social worker is suing American Airlines for allegedly accusing her of kidnapping the white toddler she was escorting on a flight

Joe Raedle/Getty Images, alleging that airline employees accused her of kidnapping the white toddler she was accompanying.

The lawsuit claims that there was an alleged kidnapping that had occurred around that time, but that it was in New York City, and involved an older, Hispanic child, with black hair. The child with Murphy had blond hair and "very light skin," the lawsuit said. Murphy said that she had paperwork with her, including her work ID, the child's birth certificate, and a signed copy of the court order for the trip. She tried to show it to the airline employees on the plane, but they insisted she come with them. They eventually checked the paperwork, and said that there had been a mistake.

After about 40 minutes, during which the flight was delayed at the gate, she was let back on the plane. When she got back on board, she apologized to some nearby passengers. "I'm so sorry, you guys, I know you guys have connections," she said she told them.

They should have asked her for the paperwork when she checked in, not once she boarded. I flew with my friend’s daughter from the UK to the US and had to show all paperwork including a notarized letter from the parents while checking in.

TrumpsAmerica of course it’s in Dallas. Probably a QAnonMoron

as she should!

Wow was that dumb thing to do.

Oh, so AmericanAir is just sh•tty overall! Its flight attendants can harass a Black woman, but apparently these racists can't tell a white Senator to put on his damn mask! And yes, I said WHITE! Ted Cruz has been playing his privilege card for years so get the f•ck over it!

This is insanity.

AmericanAir at it again Eracism NoMoreBailouts

I’d b including the “mind yr own business “ woman who started all this. Put her name on the suit as well

KarenAir

Wow disgraceful AmericanAir. Women of color don’t go around stealing children. We don’t imitate our oppressor. Also, we have enough with our own 😉.

Why should she have to show paperwork at all? AmericanAir What right do you have to question this woman and child at all? If that child was hers she might not have had ANY paperwork. It is not required to have your child's BC when you fly. It is just a blatant racist response.

Oh she better get a big ol' pay day

arkg717 But AmericanAir didn’t care that SenTedCruz put all passengers in danger bcuz he refuse to WearADamnMask. So racism is of AA concerns, plz..boycott time? bottoms NYGovCuomo brikeilarcnn CNNTonight KHOU JacksonLeeTX18 mjhegar maddow JoeNBC

This is literally the plot of a novel about racism (it’s called Such a Fun Age and it is good)

Strongly suspect that a few of the flight crew are in the “I’m not racist, I have black friends” camp. 🤦‍♂️

Trump can’t MAGA because it never was and still isn’t - this story is so telling and sad and infuriating. What a bizarre situation to go thru and then ‘try’ to make sense of.

Anyone know the first name and/or hairstyle of the passenger that deliberately leveraged their privilege to inflict pain & violence upon a Black woman?

I wonder how the baby’s actual mother feels about this?

I_am_Gathoni its about to rain...

American Airlines warns 25,000 workers of potential furloughsAmerican Airlines Group Inc. shares dipped 2% in after-hours trading Wednesday after it sent notices to 25,000 workers -- about one-fifth of its workforce -- about potential furloughs as the airline copes with what it calls slackening demand for air travel during the pandemic. American, which is prohibited from slashing jobs or pay rates through Sept. 30 under terms of $25 billion in federal payroll support, also urged employees to take buyout and early retirement packages before being forced to cut their jobs. The airline, which reported an 80% plunge in June revenue, says it will be overstaffed by 20,000 when federal aid expires Oct. 1. Earlier this month, United Airlines Holdings Inc. warned its workers it could furlough 36,000 of them and likely move to layoffs in August, the Wall Street Journal reported. United had 96,000 employees as of December. As soon as the market opens tomorrow I’m selling all my shares
