Black girls and supporters surf around the world to honor George Floyd

In Santa Monica, California, about 200 surfers of various ages and races gathered under cloudy skies on a stretch of beach once known as Inkwell Beach, a place where black Californians sought an oceanfront refuge in the 20th century. The surfers waded into the water for a paddle out, a traditional Hawaiian ceremony to celebrate the life of someone who has died. About 200 yards offshore, they held a moment of silence while floating on their boards in a large circle, and placed yellow, pink and red flowers in the water.

George Floyd was a large man, a known violent criminal to the police. This doesn’t justify the officer ignoring his pleas that he couldn’t breathe, whether he thought them true or not.

Can someone tell me why George Floyd was a good man? I get the police acted unlawfully. I get he was killed unlawfully, but I don’t get why we celebrate a career criminal high on drugs and make him some sort of role model. Surely we can find a better?
