A bipartisan duo of senators are reviving negotiations for a potential deal on immigration reform — including providing legal status for 2 million Dreamers — with the hope they can tackle the issue before the new Congress takes effect next year.

A pathway to citizenship for two million Dreamers — undocumented immigrants brought to the U.S. as children.

Roughly $25 billion-$40 billion in increased funding for Border Patrol and border security, including a commitment to hiring more agents and increasing their pay. An extension of Title 42 until a formal plan is in place to stop an expected surge of migrants at the border. The law would remain in effect for at least a year, while processing centers are set up.The talks are still in the very early stages, and the draft framework will likely be modified to include input from other members, two sources familiar with the negotiations tell Axios.

Their hope is to get enough support — at least 10-12 GOP senators, Axios is told — for a larger, collaborative deal in the coming days, before a federal judge forces border officials to stop using Title 42 on Dec. 21.The duo is up against an onslaught of must-pass legislation that Congress is preoccupied with for the rest of the month, including national defense funding and a government spending bill that are top priorities for both the House and Senate.

That leaves little time to tackle immigration reform before Congress breaks for the holiday recess on Dec. 22."People are talking and that's a good thing," Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer told reporters.

Bipartisan duo makes last-minute push for immigration dealSens. Sinema and Tillis have launched a last-minute push to enact immigration reform before the end of the year, with new border security funds coupled with protections for “Dreamers.” This is DOA, because this issue is too potent for Republicans. It's at the root of the whole MAGA movement, and gives every dipshit R candidate an issue to bash Democrats. They're NEVER gonna give it up. StopTheInvasionOfAmerica How about NO.

Opinion | Finally, a bipartisan deal to help the ‘dreamers’ is within reachOpinion by Greg Sargent: For three straight election cycles, running as the party of “border security” has largely failed for the GOP. Will Republican senators act, or do they just want to demagogue the issue forever? It's not within reach. Biden keeps the border open, the Repubs kill gun control and DACA in retaliation.

Reported bipartisan deal will grant citizenship to two million ‘Dreamers,’ toughen border processingA report that two senators have struck a tentative deal on granting a pathway to citizenship to 2 million illegal immigrants inflamed debate Monday, with immigration activists saying they hope lawmakers can speed something through before the GOP takes control of the House next year. I got an idea - how's about fixing the immigration laws AFTER we secure the borders? The wind changing. I came here legally, got a green card, and would need to pay fees of about $1200, and wait for a year or so to get my citizenship. I work hard. I pay my taxes. Why can't congress spontaneously cross floors to vote me a tiny flag and a certificate of citizenship?
