Bill Weld, the Republican former governor of Massachusetts who is mounting primary challenge to Trump, insisted he is running to win his party's nomination, not just weaken the president

Bill Weld, the Republican former governor of Massachusetts who is mounting primary challenge to President Donald Trump, insisted Wednesday he is running to win his party's presidential nomination, not just weaken Trump.

“Mr. Trump and California don't seem to get along well,” he said, so “I think there is promise there.” When “New Day” host Alisyn Camerota pointed out that history was not on Weld’s side for winning the nomination, he countered by pointing out that in the last five elections when a sitting president faced a primary challenger, the incumbent president lost reelection, compared to winning reelection when they did not face a primary challenge.“My strategy that I just laid out for you, that’s a strategy to win. That’s not a strategy to weaken anybody.

Weld also suggested he could garner votes from liberal Democrats indifferent toward their own sprawling primary field.

Go Bill. This is exactly what Drumpf needs is a foil he can tell lies about who has the experience to come right back at him.

Thank you Bill.

I'll consider but the first time I hear Mr Weld call Potus names or make false accusations I'm out.

Man go sit down. What did you do to benefit or help MA? Trump has cut taxes, African Americans, Hispanics, Asia's all unemployment is lower than ever, ppl have more money in their paychecks, ppl off food stamps, no terror attacks, prison reform. What does he have to offer? What?

hahaha weld is a liar. he knows he cannot beat trump. trump will win again in 2020. all these crazies who want to take him down, they will all fail. realDonaldTrump

I fully support the right of any American to run for the office of the president of the united snakes of America. We need a full field running. Please all Republicans with a major distrust of trump stand up and be counted. Don't let these thoughts of diluting the vote stop you.

Weaken is good enough, but the introduction of a few good ideas wouldn’t hurt. When’s the last time a Republican put forward anything other than tax cuts and fear of The Other?

He's not doing either. He's running to shore up defectors in down ticket races.

Bill Weld and Gary Johnson are the biggest losers. The GOP is 100% Trump's party. It's never been about libertarianism and less government. For the record: Libertarians are the most desperate minority in the US politics and nobody actually believes that nonsense.

90 percent of the party is with Trump!

When do you plan to ATTACK RUSSIA? AIR LAND SEA? If you take on the WH you are taking on PUTIN & the BILLIONS he has put in the POCKETS of REPUBLICANS in Congress!. He has a RECEIPT? MCCONNELL is Out of the Closet so the OTHERS can breathe easy!

He won't win. He's not even as good as the miserable Mitt Romney.

I stayed up late to watch Governot Bill Weld on Lawrence O'Donnell last night. I wanted to assessed his potential as a Candidate. Well, he was only on, for a hot minute. I wish he would have stayed on longer. He uses two important worde. Bankruptcy, and the Debt.

Everybody register GOP and vote for Weld in the primaries!

Go Bill, Go!

No thanks GovBillWeld

In it to win it. Excellent!!! BillWeld2020 How can I help?

Why would republicans nationally vote for a Massachusetts “republican”? That would be like voting for McCain or Romney or Jeff Flake or Alaskan Murkowsi, or Susan Collins. They “just ain’t Republicans”. They are faux Republicans and we have had too many of them!

That's pretty close to what he said when he acted like he was a libertarian last presidential election

I’m just here for the butthurt.

The convenient Republican. He lost all credibility when he ran in 2016 as a 'libertarian.'

Wonder if I could like drink a while bottle of Pepto and register as a Republican just long enough to vote him in the primaries.

Bloomberg should also run against Trump as a Republican.

What does Weld want on his political tombstone?

Is Weld putting country over party. Will his be a campaign of principle.?

I’m glad you have the Gumption to run

This is an opportunity for Republicans to point out the 'flaws' in their master.

I am good either way

what a liar....he knows he has no chance at all

LOL
