During the partial meltdown at Three Mile Island nuclear facility in 1979, Green gained national attention serving as the state’s spokesperson, interpreting and disseminating information as the incident unfolded.

He was a key administrator during Gov. Dick Thornburgh’s two terms in office , as press secretary for the Department of Transportation before being appointed deputy secretary for public liaison at the Department of Environmental Resources . Green also served as deputy press secretary to the governor and deputy director of communications.

Reporters were drawn to Green for his insightful comments and reactions to breaking political stories and issues. His list of associations included Pittsburgh-based WPXI, where he appeared regularly as the station’s political analyst, and radio station WTAE, where he was a regular host during its years in an all-news and talk format.

Roddy, who weaved much of Green’s background into a story for the Pittsburgh-area news media, included a tale that involved former Pa. Speaker of the House H. William DeWeese and Green.
