At the same time, this has the feeling of being part of a long goodbye including the annual dinner Wednesday.“We had a dinner last [Wednesday] night where they talked nice about me, and I would have been just fine forgoing it,” Bowlsby said. “I’ve been doing what I have been doing for a long time. To come to the end of it as a full-time employee, first of all, it really feels odd.

Bowlsby’s exit comes with a lot of important issues on the plate for the Big 12 in particular and college sports in general. Following the Bowlsby blueprint in hiring may not be a bad thing for the Big 12 presidents and their national search firm, Turnkey. Bowlsby was one of the nation’s most respected athletic directors at Stanford. Another AD, maybe one with ties to the conference, would be preferable to a non-traditional candidate that will come with training wheels.Asked about his proudest accomplishment at the Big 12, Bowlsby gave an interesting and altogether accurate answer.
