to the Commission on Presidential Debates, Biden campaign manager Jen O’Malley Dillon wrote that the former vice president plans to participate in the three debates scheduled for September 29, October 15 and October 22.
The Trump campaign was pushing for four debates that would begin shortly after Labor Day, according to a June 18In her letter, Dillon said the Trump camp’s debate proposal was creating a “distraction” because he is “trailing in the polls” and looking to shift focus from “his failed leadership of the country.”in December 2019 that the Commission is “stacked with Trump Haters & Never Trumpers” and that he would be open to bypassing them for “direct” debates.
Dillon also used her letter to suggest that “nothing should prevent” Trump and Biden from debating, and that “appropriate safety and social distancing measures” should be implemented in light of the coronavirus pandemic.“Our position is straightforward and clear: Joe Biden will accept the Commission’s debates, on the Commission’s dates, under the Commission’s established format and the Commission’s independent choice of moderators,” wrote Dillon. “Donald Trump and Mike Pence should do the same.
