President Joe Biden and first lady Jill Biden will travel to Lewiston, Maine, on Friday after 18 people were killed there in a mass shooting.

"The president and first lady will pay respects to the victims of this horrific attack and grieve with families and community members, as well as meet with first responders, nurses, and others on the front lines of the response," the White House said Wednesday.

"One of the key pieces of the Office of Gun Violence Prevention is additional resources that can go to schools, go to communities in the aftermath of these tragedies," she said. On Tuesday, White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre urged Congress, particularly Republicans, to send Biden more legislation to counter this"gun violence epidemic.""We're tired of this. You know, I'm tired of it. The president is tired of it. I'm sure all of you are tired about talking about these horrific mass shootings," she said."We know what works.

U.S. Army reservist Robert Card killed 18 people at a restaurant and bowling alley last week before apparently turning one of his guns on himself.
