President Joe Biden will nominate Tara K. McGrath to become the new U.S. attorney in San Diego, finally moving to fill a position that oversees one of the busiest federal court districts in the nation, the White House announced Monday.
If her nomination is confirmed by the Senate, McGrath will take over for Randy Grossman, who has led the office for the past two years — first through an appointment by Attorney General Merrick Garland and later an appointment by the judges of the district while Biden considered an official selection. The U.S. attorney for the Southern District of California is the chief prosecutor and top federal law enforcement official for San Diego and Imperial counties.
She joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office in San Diego in 2008 and remained in that post for nearly 12 years, starting as a prosecutor in the general crimes unit and working her way up to principal deputy chief of that unit.
