It worked so well when they tapped the gasoline reserves. Prices went down a few cents for a few days and then went up again. Don't they have to replenish the reserves? Won't they have the repurchase at higher prices?

There are oil and gas companies that have hundreds of previously issued permits to drill which have been issued over the years, but these companies have chosen not to drill on many of these permits, primarily due to economic reasons. Meanwhile oil companies profits are way up.
