Mary Peltola wrote in April that the decision is a “huge step back for Alaska, failing to strike a balance between the need for gap oil and natural gas and legitimate environmental concerns, and steamrolling the voices of many Alaska Natives in the decision-making process.”The United Tribes of Bristol Bay stated in a release from Executive Director Alannah Hurley that that “majority” of federally-recognized tribes in Alaska support the decision to protect their lands.
