A new federal report shows that solar energy has the potential to power 40% of US electricity by 2035 — without raising costs for consumers.

The Solar Futures Study from the Department of Energy, released Wednesday, shows that by 2035, solar energy has the potential to power 40% of the nation's electricity and employ as many as 1.5 million people — without raising electricity costs for consumers.Though the report shows reaching 40% solar is possible, that goal is contingent on Congress passing legislation that incentivizes renewable energy as well as the widespread adoption of solar power.

The DOE study estimates that wind power could make up 36% of the grid, nuclear could account for around 13%, hydroelectric could make up around 5-6%, and geothermal could account for the remaining 1%. Still, whether that renewable energy transition can happen depends on the amount of tax credits Democrats in Congress can pass in their upcoming budget reconciliation bill.

WHCOS Interesting half-truth. In reality, solar and wind combined could produce 38-40% maximum of energy requirements for 2025. Where do we get the rest? China owns Rare Earth metals now. Batteries for storage? Silly political non-science reporting from CNN. Fools-all of them

Just mandate every roof must have solar panels

Lol!! Which idiots write these reports. It's gona cost alot more. But it's important people must suck it up. Jobs will be lost. But ppl must suck it up

will its pay it self off and cover the cost to rebuild it every 10 years?

If they ever get this going it will be a miracle

So if we use the land for solar panels, what do we use to grow food for our ever increasing populations?

I love how government projects always have to be So Big... Really impressive. But making it easy to put up solar roofs, or cover the tops of warehouses, stores and factories? That isn't impressive enough...

Didn't Iraq Botswana try this once and fail miserably? I swear I've heard/witnessed this story before.

Solar energy can account for 40% of U.S. electricity by 2035 -DOEThe Biden administration on Wednesday released a report showing the United States can get 40% of its electricity from solar energy by 2035, a significant jump. The Solar Futures Study outlines how solar energy can help decarbonize the U.S. power grid and help achieve a Biden administration goal of net zero emissions in the electricity sector by 2035. “The study illuminates the fact that solar, our cheapest and fastest-growing source of clean energy, could produce enough electricity to power all of the homes in the U.S. by 2035 and employ as many as 1.5 million people in the process,” Secretary of Energy Jennifer Granholm said in a statement. Not nearly enough. And the panels are made of wot Thank you!

Solar Energy Could Power 40% Of U.S. By 2035, Report SaysThe Energy Department’s report says the industry could give work to 1.5 million people. If small towns like the one I live in would let us have our own wind generators, then I would go off grid right now, and help out with that old power grid we got now. The problem is the older people that run my town, think wind generation is noisy and ugly. Makes no sense to me. That’s hard to imagine, but we look forward to such times and the positive impact such a change will have on the environment. It is the only way to save the US power grid from an EMP or a solar storm. Plugged in electric cars will take the load of the EMP while solar farms will generate electricity while traditional power plants are repaired.
