Tuesday's package, issued through the president's drawdown authority, includes additional air defense munitions, artillery and other ammunition, armored vehicles, anti-armor weapons, and other equipment necessary for Ukraine's counteroffensive against Russia. The weapons will come directly from U.S. stockpiles and should reach their destination shortly.
Russia has turned its attention to the Ukrainian port city of Odessa over the last week or so, following its decision to withdraw from an agreement that permitted essential Ukrainian grain exports to leave the country and raising concerns about a global food shortage. Russia has repeatedly damaged or destroyed grain itself and Ukraine's port infrastructure.
"Following its withdrawal from the Black Sea Grain Initiative, Russia continues to attack Ukrainian ports and grain infrastructure — including in Odessa. Russia could end this war at any time by withdrawing its forces from Ukraine and stopping its brutal attacks against Ukraine’s cities and people," the secretary continued."Until it does, the United States and our allies and partners will stand united with Ukraine, for as long as it takes.
The U.S. has provided Ukraine with more than $40 billion in military aid since Russia invaded Ukraine nearly 18 months ago.
