Juan Guerrero, 44, a Bexar County jail inmate, died Wednesday at a hospital after he was interrupted in the act of hanging himself in his cell.SAN ANTONIO — A Bexar County jail inmate died at a hospital Wednesday, hours after he was interrupted in the act of hanging himself in his cell.

At about 3 a.m. Wednesday, a deputy conducting face-to-face checks found Juan Carlos Guerrero, 44, with a sheet tied around his neck, according to the Bexar County Sheriff’s Office.Medical staff arrived and continued emergency treatment, and the inmate was taken to Baptist Medical Center downtown, where he was placed on life support and later died.

Guerrero had been booked into the jail on Oct. 4 on a charge of possession of a controlled substance. The Sheriff’s Office’s criminal investigations division will conduct an investigation into the incident, as will its internal affairs department and public integrity unit.
