Better Call Saul's Bob Odenkirk revealed that the final season 6 of the show may warrant a rewatch of Breaking Bad, due to all the "overlaps" that have been meticulously included. Better Call Saul is a prequel/spin-off of the hugely popular Breaking Bad and follows Odenkirk's Jimmy McGill , who appeared in the original show as a strip mall lawyer who represented Walter White and Jesse Pinkman in court.
As the wait for Better Call Saul season 6 draws to a close, audiences are gearing up for what Odenkirk has called a "turbulent" final season. In past seasons, Goodman has been shown to have both heart and wits, even if he's lacking in good judgment some of the time. Now embroiled in the Albequerque drug trade, Jimmy has made quite a few enemies in low, low places.
"In the final season of Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad and Better Call Saul have never been more entwined. It's just amazing how many overlaps they've discovered and mined for this season of our show. It's stunning! And it's going to be cool. For people who watch this, it's going to be like, 'I gotta go watch Breaking Bad again,' as soon as they're done, they're gonna have to press play on Breaking Bad, because there's just so much interaction now.
Odenkirk's tease that Better Call Saul and Breaking Bad's timelines are coming closer together certainly makes sense. The series not only covers Goodman's past, but also his future. The flash-forward scenes to his new identity, Gene Takovic, give viewers a look into what's coming for the character, since season 5 left McGill/Goodman/Takavic in the precarious position of being found out while hiding in Omaha.
While Odenkirk may be rooting for Goodman in the end, there's an argument for both camps. On the one hand, viewers have seen Goodman before he was the sleazy, no-good, back-alley conman that he is in Breaking Bad. On the other hand, the descent from a good man with questionable ethics has shown that, if anything, his new alter ego of Takavic has a lot coming to him, and none of it seems good.
I was thinking of doing this anyway, just because of how much we're learning about these characters' pasts, and how that would affect their scenes in BB. Can't wait to see where they go with it this season.
