For their new self-titled record, the band has reconfigured their sound by adding a new guitarist and vocalist, Christina Puerto, and are today sharing a new track to showcase the new direction. “Empty Room” is a low-key ripper, layering tactile drumming underneath twirling guitars. The track traverses decibels at the drop of a hat, moving from skronky wails to subdued murmurs several times during its less than 3-minute runtime. Puerto’s voice is delicately firm, singing of needing to be alone in the middle of tough times. Speaking toAs I was writing the lyrics — which are kinda bleak — I kept being drawn to really optimistic-sounding melodies, which I eventually just gave into.
