Bestie and more pets up for adoption in Phoenix-area shelters this week

Every year, approximately 6.5 million companion animals enter shelters nationwide, according to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals. Of those, about 3.3 million are dogs and 3.2 million are cats.

The 6-year-old shorthair Chihuahua was found not bearing weight on his left hind limb, bruising and swelling of the hind area and multiple wounds throughout his body. The sweet pup was rushed to the shelter’s Second Chance Animal Trauma Hospital where x-rays revealed that his hind leg was severely fractured.

Due to allergies in his current home, he had to be given up. His owners had him declawed, so he will definitely be an indoor cat. Rosco likes to be brushed and will tolerate being picked up, although, like so many cats, he is not overly fond of it. He gets along well with other cats. He also comes when his name is called, so he answers to either Rosco or Simon — a very smart cat indeed! Rosco would love to see you at Sun Cities 4 Paws Rescue, 11129 Michigan Avenue, Youngtown.
