Senator Bernie Sanders, an Independent from Vermont seeking the Democratic nomination for president, will unveil a bill Monday to cancel all outstanding student debt, according to reports.
‘In a generation hard hit by the Wall Street crash of 2008, it forgives all student debt and ends the absurdity of sentencing an entire generation to a lifetime of debt for the ‘crime’ of getting a college education.’ —Bernie Sanders’ prepared remarks to be delivered Monday.
That two presidential candidates are backing student-debt cancellation proposals is a signal of how far the idea has come from a radical notion that sprouted out of Occupy Wall Street to a point of debate in national politics. Research indicates that cancelling student debt would have benefits for the economy and the individuals who get access to debt cancellation.
Still, the idea is not without controversy. Critics have historically taken issue with cancelling all student debt because wealthier students are more likely to benefit — at least as measured in dollar amounts. That’s because borrowers with graduate degrees, who tend to earn more, also tend to have higher levels of student debt. Warren aimed to address those concerns with the income cap.
Why didn’t BernieSanders propose student debt forgiveness until now? For decades, the nation’s universities have been failing students in record numbers! Regulate or close the nation’s corrupt universities!

Student loan debt doesn’t just include money paid for tuition. It also includes student loans borrowed to pay car notes, apartment rent, food and eating out while in college. How nice for the government to subsidize all this.

Bernie Sanders is an idiot. Who is going to pay back all those that already paid there debt? They made a choice taking on that debt. We need to educate people on life in school instead of locking them into slavery! They created this system
Yeah his bill is to 'tax wall st'....except Wall St isn't some amorphous entity. His plan is to asses all stock and bond transactions. Basically if you buy stocks, or bonds YOU will pay the tax. So he's punishing those of us who save for retirement and invest to rescue others.
if he does it now- he has to do it forever. otherwise “it wouldnt be fair!” so what does that mean? as long as ur in school u can “borrow” as much money as u want- and bernie will just cancel your debt SOUNDS AMAZING! im about to re-enroll right now just thinking about it!!!
