District trustee Toni Carter said the board united in selecting Berger, who most recently served Pearland ISD as assistant superintendent for support services. Berger was selected after an internal search for new leadership. “Given the enormous talent we had to choose from and the different experiences and priorities of the board members, this could have been a really difficult decision, but it wasn’t,” Cater said after Berger was formally installed on April 12. “ worked really well together to make the best decision for our district, and I’m super excited for the future.
“I am humbled by this opportunity and challenge before us, but I know that the support I have, the team I have, the community I have, that we are Pearland ISD, and we are going to face the challenges in front of us, and we are going to make great things happen for our students, for our community and for the state of Texas, because they’re going to recognize who we are and what we’re about and we’re going to get better every day,” he said.
Berger also served as Pearland ISD’s director of maintenance, operation and facilities for four years. During his 23 years in education, he also worked as Pearland High School’s principal or assistant principal for nine years.
