The two candidates in the race have differing visions for the province, but they are both looking to rebuild the party.

While their ideas may differ, Beck and Harvey are both looking to rebuild the party by broadening its reach — which was recommended in the“We really do want to reach out so our membership, potential supporters and existing supporters know that we’re listening and that we’re responding to what’s important to them,” said NDP president Sheila Whelan in an interview on Friday.NDP leadership hopeful Kaitlyn Harvey sits for a photo in her space which is set up for a campaign live stream.

Whelan said it will be a quick race this time because the party wants to be ready for the next provincial election.Following his resignation, aDuring the leadership review vote in October 2021, Meili received support from 72 per cent of delegates. Meanwhile, Beck and Harvey have released their platforms. Here’s where they stand on a number of issues.Beck has said she wants to implement an “all-of-the-above approach” to create and support jobs in every sector, including those in natural resources, renewables and technology. She wants “workers to keep the jobs they want.” As well, she would like Saskatchewan workers and materials to have priority when public dollars are spent on infrastructure.

Harvey said she would like to focus on shifting from harm reduction to harm prevention. This includes community-based health risk assessments. She said the approach needs to be transparent.Beck has said people need to recognize the reality of climate change, adding that working people shouldn’t be ignored when developing a plan. She said investments in new technologies, like wind, solar and geothermal, can make Saskatchewan a leader.
